Where to go trekking in northern Vietnam?

Best time to take a hike in north Vietnam?

The best time to trek in northern Vietnam is September – May. The good weather begins in mid-September until mid-may. During this time, you have cooler weather. There is possibly small rain that does last for two long.

Therefore if you pick Mai Chau or Sapa for your upcoming trip to Vietnam, then you should avoid the weekend. Most of Vietnamese people travel at weekend. Sapa and Mai Chau can be very crowded then. Besides, January is not a good month for hiking Sapa area including Sapa hill tribe villages, Hoang Lien national park and the Fansipan mountain.

Trekking in North Vietnam usually requires an English-speaking guide, and a porter. The trek usually goes through local hill tribe villages where local people do not speak English. A local guide is highly recommended. The local guide comes from the area. He/she knows well the local customs and traditions.
