Bac Lieu Vietnam
Bac Lieu Vietnam or Bac Lieu province is generally thought of as being in the Mekong Delta, although it is actually located slightly to the south of the Mekong’s main outflows.
Bac Lieu province is around 100 km south of Can Tho, the largest city in the Mekong Delta. It shares its border with Can Tho City and Soc Trang Province to the north, the East Sea to the south, Ca Mau and Kien Giang provinces to the west. Bac Lieu has many large rice paddies and fertile land, which make a good condition for fruit tree planting.
The town is on side of Bac Lieu Canal, 10km from the sea. The local people grow rice, fruit trees, catch seafood and make salt. Bac Lieu used to play importance role in exploitation and developing of French colonialists so that the province has existed several western-style villas and palaces.
History
After the Fall of Saigon, 30 April 1975, Bac Lieu Province and Ca Mau Province were merged into one new entity called Minh Hai Province. Although it is located in Vietnam, many years ago this land was a part of the Khmer Empire which ruled most of Indochina many centuries ago. It is still home to many ethnic Khmer people. In 1996, Minh Hai Province was split into two, with the northeast becoming Bac Lieu Province and the southwest becoming Ca Mau Province.

Bac Lieu is situated in the tropical monsoon area, having 2 distinct seasons: rainy season from May to November and dry season from December until April of the following year.
The average annual rainfall is 2,000-2,300 mm. The average temperature is 26oC with its maximum and minimum temperature of respective 31,5oC and 22,5oC.
The yearly sunshine is 2,500-2,600 hrs. The average humidity during the dry season is 80%, increasing to 85% during the rainy season.
The area is less affected by storms, tropical low pressure, and floods of the Mekong River. However, it is under strong impacts of the East Sea tides and a part of the diurnal system of the West Sea. The province suffers less storm, tropical low pressure. However, major storms hit the province, causing serious damages, i.e. No. 5 in 1997 and No. 4 in 2004.
In general, the climate is relatively favorable for agriculture production, especially aquaculture and paddy cultivation.

Bac Lieu is 280km from Ho Chi Minh City, 67km from Ca Mau, 50km from Soc Trang, and 113km from Can Tho. The National Highway No. 1A crosses the province and links to Soc Trang and Ca Mau provinces.
