The Plain of Jars Tour is a day trip starting from Xieng Khouang, The site combines ancient and contemporary history with insights into Phuan, Hmong, Khmu and Tai Dam culture. Nature encounters are easily accessible off the beaten track. Unlike Ancient Greece or the First Emperor of China that date from around the same time very little is known about the civilization that created The Plain of Jars.
10km out of town in the Plain of Jars, an archaeological spectacle made up of giant stone Jars, which date back at least 2000 years. It is a mystery why on this 50km wide plateau there are more than 300 stone jars scattered around the area. They range in size from 1 to 2.5 meters high, and it is believed that they were used as funeral urns.
Next we take a 1.5hr drive to a district in Muang Kham, 51km from Xieng Khouang. Along the way we will also stop to visit Tai Dam and H’Mong villages.
We enjoy lunch en route before returning to the hotel for an independent evening.
