Itinerary

Our guide will meet you at the hotel at 0800. Transportation today will be by local transportation. First stop will be Christian Church of Chiang Mai, founded in 1968 by missionaries. We have some great old pictures of the church and of the old Nawarat Bridge before it was demolished in 1965 and made way for the current bridge. We cross Charoen Muang road and compare the current situation to pictures of more than 50 years ago. From here we follow Charoenrat Road to Wat Ket. We pass some beautiful old shophouses. We will visit the Healing Family Foundation where physically handicapped people make beautiful souvenirs to make a living. At Wat Ket we visit the fascinating temple museum. From here we proceed to one of the Sikh Gurdwaras in Chiang Mai. A Gurdwara is a Sikh place of worship.

We get into tuk tuks to bring us to the Warorot Market, just across the Ping River. It’s only a short ride. Warorot Market is also known as Kad Luang. This fantastic market never ceases to amaze us. Kad Luang as well as the adjoining Ton Lamyai Market was completely destroyed in a disastrous fire in 1968. Your guide will show you pictures of this disaster. The area around Kad Luang is the Chinatown of Chiang Mai. We will visit two Chinese pagodas and wander around the most interesting markets of Chiang Mai. It is really a feast for the eye….and for the stomach. We will taste some of the local delicacies before we visit the oldest Chinese pharmacy of Chiang Mai.

We continue our walk to the Chinese Muslim area Ban Haw. Here we will visit the Ban Haw Mosque and enjoy a bowl of traditional Khao Soi in one of our favorite restaurant. We continue through Charoenprathet Road and stop at two remarkable teakwooden buildings, each with its own story. We end our walking tour at a magnificent 145-year old teakwooden Lanna style house. You will be transferred back to your hotel. End of the program.
