DAY 1: ARRIVE CHAU DOC (FROM CAMBODIA)

Arrive in Chau Doc in the afternoon, our guide and driver will meet you and transfer to hotel. Chau Doc, nestling at the foot of Sam Mountain on the Cambodian border, has a real frontier town feel to it. This busy little riverine town has large Cham, Khmer and ethnic Chinese communities and the distinctive architectural styles of each community can be seen in their places of worship around the town. The rest day is your leisure. Overnight in Chau Doc.

DAY 2: CHAU DOC -> LONG XUYEN -> CAN THO

Wake up early to enjoy boating to explore fishing village. Chau Doc is home to the Cham and Khmer cultures, floating farmhouses and the Islamic Chancel Cham minority settlement. After breakfast, our guide will take you out for a fantastic boat cruise to Cham Village, where around 4000 Muslim people living in the area. Cham village where the people are Muslim and speak Malaysian which is kind of unusual for Vietnam. These people live in houses on the land but because of the flood water in the rainy season, they have to build them on stilts 3 metres high. After Cham Village we move on to fishing village, where the local residents make a living from farming fish in cages under their houses. These catfish are far too expensive for the locals to eat and so are all exported, mostly to the USA. Even the houses are all floating they are still on the electricity grid as the girl at the front of boat found out. Enjoy a short hike up to Sam Mountain to take a panoramic view over the Cambodian border. Transfer to Can Tho via Long Xuyen and Thot Not, where we visit Nature Reserve at Thot Not Bird Sanctuary. Enjoy boating through the park to witness the beauty of flocks of White Stork birds returning to nest at sunset. Your viewing platform provides a wide view of this daily spectacle of nature. Continue driving to Can Tho, where we spend our night.

DAY 3: CAN THO -> SAIGON

Wake up in the early morning to enjoy interesting boating to visit the most vibrant and bustling floating market of Cai Rang, where hundreds of boats of all sizes gather around for trading of their agricultural products. We will see a lively and colorful market on a large bend of the river. Boat trip back to town for breakfast in the hotel. Our shuttle will bring us our of town and cross Can Tho ferry, we get off at Binh Minh, where we start to cycle on beautiful dirt road passing through local villages My Thanh, My Hoa, Tan Phu 2, Hoa Binh, Phu Hoa. For adventure tours such as jungle trekking, mountain hiking, sea kayaking, river rafting or biking, cycling tours, LOTUSSIA Travel will never add any new routes into available schedule until survey or pre-view it.

Accommodation

LOTUSSIA Travel carefully choose all the hotels, guest-houses or homestays based on service quality, location, and characteristics, doing best to make the accommodations in the remote small places as comfortable as possible. Please bear in mind that hotels in Vietnam might not be in the same standard in other country. Generally hotels in major cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh city, Hoian, Hue…are much better than hotels and guest-houses in mountainous areas.

Meals

LOTUSSIA Travel take dinning as an indispensable experience to clients since it is an important part in Vietnamese culture. Therefore, LOTUSSIA Travel will not intend take clients to the most expensive restaurants but non-touristy local ones which offer delicious, local food, with nice or interesting atmosphere. The restaurants might be simple in the country but LOTUSSIA Travel guarantee is sanitary and cleanliness. Or even on our trek, we encourage our cook offer client food with new tastes from day to day. During adventure itineraries to mountainous or remote areas, there is sometimes no choice for hotel and restaurants. We will try our best to bring you the best taste of local food.

Drinks

As the tap water in Vietnam is undrinkable, LOTUSSIA Travel recommend clients to drink bottled water throughout your trip, or boiled water on treks. LOTUSSIA Travel offers bottle water all the day, and soft drinks like Cola, Sprite or Vietnamese Tea or if possible juice in restaurants (if mentionned in itinerary). This is not automatically included in the packages. In simple restaurant or on camping, LOTUSSIA Travel offers boiled water, instant coffee or juice, wrapped milk (Details are confirmed in bottom of your itinerary).

Vehicle

In most destinations of Vietnam, all the roads are well paved though the traffic is quite messed up like in Hanoi, Hai Phong… We use proper vehicles, car, minibus or coach in good condition based on the size of the groups. We use 4WD only on the rough road where the other vehicles could not pass through or based on clients requirement on overland journeys or treks. For cycling itineraries, we usually use our support minibus or minibus with support truck. For sea kayaking, river rafting trips, diving packages we use standard boat as support. Detailed information is provided on our service proposal.

We use drivers who are native or local of each travel destination and maintain good safety records for all trips. Most of our drivers can speak English but a little bit. This is just enough to understand basic words such as “time of departure”, “stop”, “restaurants”, “hotels”…If you want to learn more about Vietnamese culture and information about sightseeing sites, booking a tour guide is highly recommended.

Everything was easy peasy. Such a beautiful region! It didn’t seem like as much biking as I would have expected, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Thank you for the efforts that all the Lotussia staff extended to make our first Asia trip so memorable.
