Muong Hum Market is a big market that is located in Bat Xat district, Lao Cai province, Vietnam. The road trip to Muong Hum takes 2.5 hours from Sapa (75km) and 1.5 hour from Lao Cai (42km).
Muong Hum market is open on Sunday morning only. This is the place where the H’mong, Dao, Nung, and merchants gather on Sunday. Several Pa Zi women sell traditional incense made from the bark and resin of scented trees.
This market has preserved nearly intact its life – style, imbued with culture tradition.
During the Tet holidays, Roong Pooc festival, grave- visiting festival, death pardon day or feast for good harvest, all families in Muong Hum often invites each other to have a simple meal with salted vegetable, duck, pork or dry buffalo meat and beef with cabbage.
The town is awakening by human and horses sounds and colored by the costume worm by local people come down from mountain around. On the day, the elderly often have heart – to – heart talks while young people are absorbed in intimate chats or fix on their wedding date.
This peaceful mountainous area has in itself numerous traditional cultural features that are well reflected in festivals.
