Luc Ngan Bac Giang, one of nine rural districts of Bac Giang province is located in the Northeast region of Vietnam, about 3 hours drive from Hanoi. When to go
Luc Ngan has the dominant characteristics of the tropical, temperate climate zone of the Northern Plain Vietnam weather. The temperature, humidity and rainfall vary over months and seasons.
The climate in Luc Ngan Bac Giang has been discerned in two distinct seasons – the hot, rainy season from May to September and the cold, dry season from November to March. The average temperature varies between 22–23 °C (72–73 °F); the maximum temperature recorded was 41 °C (106 °F) while the lowest temperature was 13 °C (55 °F).
Humidity values are in the range of 73% to 87%. The average rainfall is reported to be 1,953 millimetres (76.9 in). The annual sunshine hours of 1,500 to 1,700 hours is good to grow tropical and subtropical trees. The average wind velocity is 2.1 metres (6.9 ft)/s and the average atmosphere pressure is 757.71 mmHg.
Since Luc Ngan is located away from Vietnam’s eastern coast and the East Sea, the incidence of hurricanes and storms is rare, although whirlwinds and hailstorms are a localized phenomenon in a few mountainous districts.
Getting to Luc Ngan
The best way to get to Luc Ngan from Hanoi is to rent a car with driver. You will be picked up at your place in Hanoi and brought to Luc Ngan directly. The journey takes about 2 hours on road. Those who are on budget can take local public bus from My Dinh bus station, Gia Lam bus station or Giap Bat bus station. Taking a guided tour (with a tour guide) is highly recommended, especially when you travel to an off the beaten track destination like Luc Ngan Vietnam.
What to see
Cam Son lake
Luc Ngan district is known for the Cam Son lake is an ideal place for ecotours and weekend escape from Bac Giang city. The lake has an area of some 2600ha, but during the rainy season when flooding is common, the lake can expand to some 3,000 hectares . The length of the lake is about 30km. Its widest point is about 7km, and narrowest point is about 200m.
Khe Ro forest
The Khe Ro Primitive Forest, which is a 7,153ha protected forest in An Lac Commune, Son Dong is another attraction in the region. The area boasts a rich variety of flora and fauna and many fresh water streams. Other sites of interest include Khuon Than Lake and Tu Ma Temple.

Luc Ngan district is topographically flat and characterized by paddy fields and rural hamlets. There are both sealed roads and single dirt trails offering a variety of bike tours. Luc Ngan district may not be an ideal place for taking a multi-day hike.
