Uong Bi Quang Ninh, one of the 14 rural districts of Quang Ninh Province is located in the north-east region of Vietnam, about 4 hour drive from Hanoi. Uong Bi district covers an area of 240 km². It might not be an ideal place for trekking, hiking. But the area offers beautiful off the beaten path road cycling tours which can be arranged for those discover Vietnam countryside and rural villages.

Uong Bi is divided into 9 wards and 2 communes including Phuong Nam, Phuong Dong, Yen Thanh, Nam Khe, Quang Trung, Trung Vuong, Thanh Son, Bac Son, Vang Danh, Thuong Yen Cong, and Dien Cong.

When to go

Uong Bi’s climate is symbolic of the climate of North Vietnam weather; featuring all four seasons. In summer, it is hot, humid and rainy, while monsoons flourish. The average annual temperature recorded is 22.9 °C. In winter, it is cold (between 1 and 3 °C), dry, and sees little rainfall (between 150 mm and 400 mm). The average humidity is 82 percent. Annual average rainfall, influenced by north-eastern monsoons, varies between 1,700 mm and 2,400 mm (maximum recorded is 2751 mm), with rainfall concentrated in the summer months for 90 to 170 days, particularly in July and August.

Getting to Uong Bi

The best way to get to Uong Bi from Hanoi is to rent a car with driver. You will be picked up at your place in Hanoi and brought straight to Uong Bi. The journey takes about 4 hours on road. Those who are on budget can take local public bus from My Dinh/Gia Lam/Giap Bat bus station. Taking a guided tour (with a tour guide) is highly recommended. A guide is really helpful in such an off the beaten track place like Uong Bi Vietnam.
