Tra Vinh is located on Mekong River Delta, bordering Ben Tre, Vinh Long, Soc Trang, and East Sea on the east with 65km seaside. Tra Vinh City is 66km from Vinh Long, 205km from Ho Chi Minh City.

Tra Vinh is best known for significant stamp of Khmer culture on local life here. It is home to around 300.000 khmer ethnic people. There remain around 140 Khmer pagodas scattered around its areas. The province mainly consists of coastal plain with quite rich alluvial deposits.

Ba Om Lake and Ang Pagoda are the two major attractions in Tra Vinh.

Ba Om Lake or Ao Vuong is located in Nguyet Hoa Village, Chau Thanh District around 7km southwest of Tra Vinh Town. The lake covers 10 ha of calm, clear & blue water surrounded by sand dunes, hillocks and weird shaped aged trees. It is home to many kinds of fish and birds.

The Ang Pagoda is located right next to Ba Om Pond. It was built in typical architecture of Khmer pagodas found in Cambodia. All Khmer people in two countries follow Threvada Buddhism. However, unlike monks in Cambodia who rely on food donations from followers and are able to eat meat, Vietnamese monks grow rice themselves and are not permitted to eat meat.

Tra Vinh is on tropical monsoon region. The weather is hot around the year. The dry season lasts from December to April. The rainy season is between May and November. Annual average temperature is 260C.
