Sung Sot cave was discovered in 1991 by the French who came to visit Halong bay Vietnam. They were surprised by the beauty of the grotto, thus giving it the name « Sung Sot » or «Surprised».

The cave is about 10,000sq m and 30m high. It is separated into two main parts. The first part is quite large with many stalactites in different shapes. There are also stalactites hanging from the ceiling. From the first part to the second part, you would have to cross a small path. There is no water dropping from the stalactites. Instead, there are concaves like the ceiling of the theatre. This is one of the typical karst caves. Coming deeper, the grotto is more beautiful.

It is said that Giong God has been to this place before he came to the heaven. He left the sword and horse to calm people’s nerve. There are signs of that battle for the footprints of horse.
