Lam Binh Tuyen Quang or Lam Binh is a mountainous district of Tuyen Quang Province in the northwest region of Vietnam. The district is about 7 hour drive from Vietnam’s capital – Hanoi.

Lam Binh district covers an area of 781 square kilometers, offering great outdoor activities and off-the-beaten path experience such as hiking tours, trekking, homestay, road cycling, mountain biking, motorbike, and motorcycle tours from Hanoi.

The district contains 8 communes including Lang Can, Thuong Lam, Khuon Ha, Phuc Yen, Xuan Lap, Binh An, Tho Binh, and Hong Quang.

When to go

The tropical climatic seasons are the monsoon and dry season. Rainfall occurs generally during the monsoon months of May to October, which is also the summer season in Lam Binh Vietnam. However, it is unevenly distributed due to varying topography. The average annual rainfall in Lam Binh is 1,500 millimetres (59 in) in 150 rainy days. Monsoon rainfall accounts for about 94% while the balance occurs during the dry months, which is the winter period.

The temperate to subtropical, tropical climate facilitates growth of natural flora and a diversified plant mechanism. The northern region of Tuyen Quang experiences a long winter with low temperatures. However, the region gets more rain during summer. The southern region has a diversified climate with a short winter and hot summer followed by a monsoonal season. Frequently, the strong intensity rainstorms result in floods, which occasionally cause damage to people and property. The average temperature in the province is 22.4 °C (72.3 °F).

How to get to Lam Binh?

The best way to get to Lam Binh from Hanoi is to rent a car with driver. You will be picked up in Hanoi and directly brought to Lam Binh Vietnam. Those who are on budget can take local public bus. There are few direct buses from My Dinh bus station to Lam Binh. Hanoi Tuyen Quang bus takes about 4 hours on road. Booking a guided tour (with a tour guide) is highly recommended. An English-speaking guide is really helpful in an such off the beaten path destination like Lam Binh Vietnam.

Khuoi Pin cave is located on a limestone mountain in Khuon Ha Commune, Lam Binh district. It’s 600 metres above sea level. To reach the cave you must take a boat trip from Thuong Lam pier, then hike for about 2km to arrive at the cave’s entrance.
