Cau Dong Street is situated on the southern side of Dong Xuan Market in the Old Quarter of Hanoi, Vietnam. It is about 150m long, stretching from Nguyen Thien Thuat Street to Dong Xuan Street.
The street was built only in 1986, at the same year of the construction of Dong Xuan Market. It was named in 1991.
History
In the past, there was a bridge linking Hang Ngang Street and Hang Duong Street with Dong Xuan Market. The bridge was over the To river, and named “Cau Dong” which means “Eastern Bridge”. During the colonial time, the river was filled up in 1884. The 2 markets of Cau Dong and Bach Ma were merged, making the new market of Dong Xuan.
Nowadays
Today Cau Dong Street belongs to Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi, Vietnam. It is a very busy and crowded street with business activities. The most popular items on this street are clothing, curtain fabrics, hairpins, and shoes.
