Ben En National Park stretches in the two districts of Thanh Hoa province including Nhu Xuan and Nhu Thanh. It is about 220km from Hanoi city’s center. The park is the concentration area of the endemic species of erythrophloeum fordid with age of hundreds years old.
Located in the transition area between Thanh Hoa Nghe Tinh Plain and Truong Son Mountain Range, Ben En National Park covers an area of 15,000ha. It is a complex of mountains, forests, rivers, lakes.
Biodiversity
Ben En National Park owns diversified and abundant flora and fauna systems with 1,417 plant species and 1,460 animal species, of which many rare species are listed in Viet Nam Red Book such as parashorea chinensis, madhuca pasquieri, lophura nycthemera, nomascus leucogienys leucogienys, bear, tiger, etc.
Song Muc Lake
Covering an area of 4,000ha, Song Muc Lake consists of 21 large and small islands covered by green forests. The lake has the giant bream type with weight of about 30-40kg. They are processed into many dishes, especially the delicious and nutritious dish of bream porridge.
Besides, there are 8 water ways offering visitors the chance to visit several islands in Song Muc Lake. The shortest route is 1.5km and the longest route is 8.5km.
Ben En national park also includes the limestone mountain range with many pristine and beautiful caves as Ngoc, Doi, Xuan Thai, etc. Surrounding Ben En area exists temples of Khe Rong, Phu Sung, Phu Na.
Activities
Coming to Ben En national park, visitors will have the opportunity to participate in several outdoor activities such as camping, fishing, catching crabs, and to be immersed in folk dances of the Muong, Thai, Tay. Can wine, bamboo-tube rice, bitter leaf soup are also great local specialties that should not to be missed.
