Situated on the left bank of the Red River, about 10km away from the center of Hanoi is the pottery village of Bat Trang. Bat Trang village, the most ancient and famous pottery village of Vietnam, continues to work today and is constantly developing.
Over the centuries, Bat Trang pottery has maintained a high quality and has produced mostly items for worship, such as lamps, incense burners and vases. Gradually, with market demand, house utensils appeared, mostly bowls, dishes and vases. Nowadays, Bat Trang produces many different types and designs of items, including decorative items, such as hanging dishes, vases, toy animals and reproduction statues using sophisticated techniques and technology. The Bat Trang art and craft of pottery gives us astonishing admiration for the talent of the village’s artists, they have created, from clay and fire, jade enamel for life.
Itinerary in detail
Depart from hotel at 8am.
We follow the dike going along the Red river until the Vinh Tuy Bridge, crossing the Red River to get to the heart of Red river Delta, a lot of chances to take pictures of the Red River and its delta bordered by the rice and banana plantation. Continue the ride to Bat Trang. At arrival we take a walk to discover the old village, visit couple of families where you have chance to lean about the pottery art. Take a visit of the villager’s market before continue the ride to Tho Ha village.
Leaving Bat Trang, we head to the North – East of Hanoi by taking the National No 1 to get to Bac Ninh Town, more stop for photos.
Lunch in a local restaurant in Bacninh Town.
Continue to ThoHa. At arrival we take a ferry boat to get to the village. Tho Ha Village is situated on the bank of Cau River, about 52km from Hanoi, in Bac Giang province. Tho Ha used to be a famous place of Gom Sanh (Pottery without glaze fired with dry grass, and then firewood and coal). In the early 1980s, Tho Ha villagers turned to making vermicelli, dry rice pancake and raising animals as pottery was gradually abandoned. You will discover here a real country life with the special walls have attracted film producers, painters, and photographers.
Visit the dry rice pancake and the vermicelli production in a family. Take a walk to visit the rice field and a very nice pagoda located in the heart of the village.
Return to Hanoi in the late of the afternoon. Tour ends.
